ASTM A789/A789M specification covers standard requirements for grades of nominal wall thickness, and stainless steel tubing for services requiring general corrosion resistance, with particular emphasis on resistance to stress corrosion cracking. These steels are susceptible to embrittlement if used for prolonged periods at elevated temperatures.

​​The A789 UNS S32205/S31803/S32750 super duplex stainless steel pipes are designed for demanding applications such as heaters, air coolers, condensers, and tanks, and comply with the ASTM A789 standard.​

 

​ With a PREN value >=40 (S32750 can reach 42), significantly higher than that of common stainless steels like 316L (PREN≈26), these pipes exhibit outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in chlorides-containing, high-temperature, and highly corrosive environments (such as seawater and chemical fluids). Their service life is 2-3 times longer than that of 316L.

 

​ Featuring a yield strength >=450 MPa (more than twice that of 316L) and a tensile strength >=620 MPa, they allow for a 30%-50% reduction in wall thickness, significantly reducing material weight and system load. This makes them particularly suitable for load-sensitive equipment such as heaters and air coolers.

 

​ They stably operate across a wide temperature range of -50℃ to 300℃, balancing low-temperature toughness and high-temperature structural integrity to meet the requirements of various temperature scenarios such as condensers and tanks.

All ASTM A789 stainless steel pipe supplied by GNEE is delivered in the heat-treated condition, according to the specified temperature and quenching conditions. When the final heat treatment is performed in a continuous furnace, or when the heat-treated condition is achieved by direct quenching after hot forming, the number of pipes of the same size and heat in a batch is determined based on the specified pipe size.

 

Before shipment, mechanical tests such as tensile testing, flaring testing (seamless pipe), flange testing (welded pipe), hardness testing, and reverse flattening testing are performed. Each pipe is also subjected to a non-destructive electric spark test or hydrostatic test.
